WEEKLY UPDATE
SUMMER TERM WEEK 13- WE MADE IT
I hope you all have a lovely summer and enjoy spending time with your family and loved ones.
Stay safe and we look forward to seeing you all back on Monday 4th September 2023.
MISS LYNN DAY
Thank you to everyone who joined us for Miss Lynn Day.
I know she had a very emotional but enjoyable day.
It is difficult to recognise and say thank you to someone who has spent the last 31 years of their life at the school. However we gave it a go.
After a few emotional goodbyes on the gate Miss Lynn joined us in Celebration Assembly for the first time to present awards and to present the first ever Miss Lynn House Points Award.
She then toured the school going to every class to say goodbye. Each class has prepared something special for her.
Then an afternoon tea party with support staff was followed by a Staff Flashmob in the playground joined by children and parents.
The day was ended with a staff party for current and former staff.
We will miss Miss Lynn and wish he a happy retirement.
GOODBYE TO YEAR 6 AND A NUMBER OF OTHERS
We also said goodbye to our Year 6 as well as a number of other children across the school who will all be leaving for new adventures either at secondary school, other local schools or further afield either in this country or the world.
Good luck to everyone. You will be missed.
Once a Fairlight always a Fairlight.
SUMMER HOUSE COMPETITIONS
The Miss Lynn House Point winners for 2022-2023 were Pacific- Yellow.
Well done to them.
We will be relaunching our Houses for September and everyone will get a PING to tell them what house they will be in for September.
To start the Competitions of check out the HOUSE POINTS PAGE over the summer for some competitions to earn points for your house https://www.fairlight.brighton-hove.sch.uk/in-the-classroom/other-classroom-information/house-points
WEEKLY UPDATE
SUMMER TERM WEEK 12- JUST ONE MORE WEEK TO GO
MISS LYNN DAY- HOW YOU CAN GET INVOLVED
The plan for the day is all falling in to place.
We are struggling to keep everything secret so please speak to your child about what they know as I don't want to give anything away.
Parents, former pupils and friends of the school are invited to come and join us on the playground at 2.25pm on Thursday 20th July 2023- or Miss Lynn Day as it will now be known.
Please come to the gate (not the front door) at around 2.15pm and we will ask you to secretly come into the playground (probably on the ramp) to join our final celebration and goodbye.
If you know current or former parents and pupils please let them know they are most welcome to join us.
SMALL PTA EVENT
We had hoped to run a small PTA event before the end of the school year however the school diary is so busy we don't have the space or time.
The PTA would however like some information so please click on the link below
https://forms.office.com/e/YfHfccydGP
REPORTS FEEDBACK
There is still time to enter our School Report Feedback prize draw.

OPEN AFTERNOON- FANTASTIC SUPPORT
We had hundreds of parents in school this week for Open Afternoon.
Parents were queueing around the block to get in.
Thank you to everyone who came in to see their child's learning and to meet the teachers.
We will be holding another Meet the Teacher event in September once the children have started in their new classes.
GUITAR ASSEMBLY
We had the pleasure of watching and listening to our amazing Guitarists perform this week to show us all what they have learned this year.
There are clearly some future Rock Gods and Rock Legends in the making.
WEEKLY UPDATE
SUMMER TERM WEEK 11
Three of the busiest days we have had this term last week.
Hope you had a good weekend.
Sadly the joys of a crashing computer mean this is the second attempt at this weeks newsletter.
REPORTS
End of year School Reports came home on Friday for you.
Year 6 who were at their Secondary Schools will be bringing theirs home on Monday.
For more information about reports https://www.fairlight.brighton-hove.sch.uk/head-teachers-office/school-performance
Including a link to the feedback form where you could win a prize.
TRANSITION DAY
On Friday we welcomed our new parents for Reception who will be starting at Fairlight in September 2023.
On the same day all of our current children went to visit their new classes and teacher.
And our Year 6 all went to their new Secondary Schools.
It is a very exciting day however for a few children (and parents) a very challenging day.
I read on various education pages at the weekend that there is a growing trend of parents who are being very negative about transition. Making additional demands "I want this" or "if you don't do this".
Our Transition Page explains more about the process that we go through to make the decisions and the process of transition https://www.fairlight.brighton-hove.sch.uk/in-the-classroom/teaching-and-learning-at-fairlight/transition-at-fairlight
We do what is right for every child in line with our Vision EVERY INDIVIDUAL CHILD ACHIEVES however we cannot meet every parents individual request or demands.
Parents (and children) have to trust that we are doing the right thing. But also that we know what we are doing and that we are more experienced and qualified to make the decisions.
OPEN DAY
This will take place on Monday 10th July 2023.
This is a chance for you to come and see the learning that is referred to in your child's report. To see their learning environment. To then let them take you to their new classroom and see for yourself who their new teacher is.
There will be a chance to meet the new teacher for longer and chat in September when we do our MEET THE TEACHER event.
PARENT EVENTS IN SCHOOL
From September 2023 we will be holding more Parent Events in school.
This will be a chance for Parents to come in to school to learn more about the teaching and learning in school.
It is also a chance for the children to show you some of the amazing learning but also a chance for you to come in and do some learning for yourself.
And to see and meet the teachers and staff so that you know who everyone is.
These events are aimed at all parents.
We are aware for some parents this will be tricky as they are working (I know I struggled as a working parent to get to many school events) however we will try to give as much notice so that parents can reorganise diaries and meetings.
And of course we always welcome other family members coming in to school such as grandparents and aunties and uncles.
As well as increased Parent Events we will also be looking to continue the amazing work we have started called Old Skool Young at Heart where we adopted older members of the community and to set up increased Volunteers in school- where we would like to recruit a team of Grandparents to be adopted Grandparents for children.
WEBSITE
We are looking to relaunch our Website in the new school year to hopefully make it even easier to navigate but also to be able to share more of what goes on in school.
NATIONWIDE BUILDING SOCIETY COMPETITION

Aldi are also introducing a price match guarantee for their school uniform bundle allowing shoppers to purchase the school uniform at the lowest price*
Costing just £5, the bundle and other uniform must-haves will be available in stores only from 6th July. Families looking to avoid the September rush should act fast, as with all Specialbuys, once they’re gone, they’re gone.

We remain committed to our customers and strive to support them throughout the cost of living crisis and beyond – that’s why we’ve made the decision to freeze our school uniform prices and continue to offer parents the same great savings as last year.”
Aldi’s Back to School Uniform Bundle is available to purchase in stores from 6th July, while stocks last.

If you can provide proof of a lower total price (excluding multi-buys and any promotional prices) for the same items at Asda, Lidl, Morrisons, Tesco, Sainsbury’s or Marks & Spencer on the date of your purchase, we will match that price in store. Prices correct at time of print and are subject to change.
MEASLES
Are your family protected against measles? Check whether you and your children have had your MMR vaccines.
Measles is now circulating in England and families are advised to check whether children, teenagers and adults are up to date with their measles, mumps and rubella (MMR) vaccine, particularly before travelling this summer and before attending summer festivals where measles can spread more easily.
Measles is a highly infectious disease which can lead to serious illness. MMR vaccine provides excellent protection against measles and is free on the NHS.
Children are offered the first dose of the MMR vaccine at one year and the second dose at 3 years 4 months, but they can be given with as little as a one-month gap between doses, depending on age.
To see if your child is up to date with their MMR vaccine, check their red book, or contact your GP practice. If anyone has missed one or both doses, contact your GP practice to book an appointment.
It’s never too late to catch up on your MMR vaccination-
Families are advised to contact their GP practice to check they and their children are up to date.
Visit nhs.uk/MMR for more information

WEEKLY UPDATE

MISS LYNN DAY
It is with sadness that I tell you that Deputy Headteacher Miss Lynn will be leaving us at the end of the school year.
Miss Lynn will be taking a well earned retirement after being part of the Fairlight Primary and Nursery School family since 1992- a total of 31 years.
For many families Miss Lynn has seen all of their children through Fairlight.

We are currently organising a Miss Lynn Day which will take place on Thursday 20th July 2023- the last day of term.

SUPPORT FOR PARENTS https://www.fairlight.brighton-hove.sch.uk/head-teachers-office/inclusion/support-for-parents
Some new leaflets, links and information have been posted on this page.
FINANCES AND ADDITONAL COSTS WE ARE GOING TO HAVE TO FIND
Sadly following continued pleas for parents to not sit or wait on the steps of houses opposite the school entrance we have been left with no choice but to offer to put a gate on some of the houses to ensure that local residents can come out of their front doors safely and not be met by a group of people sitting on them.
This however comes at a cost to the school.
Each gate is going to cost us around £350 to have made a fitted.
Money that we would hope could be spent on school resources however will now not be.
WEEKLY UPDATE
SUMMER TERM WEEK 8
The weather has been very kind to us for a while now.
Please don't forget to ensure your child has a water bottle- hat if they wear one- suncream on if they need it- cool clothes (still can't get over some of the Year 6's wearing their hoodies).
We have remained cool in school by using the Air Conditioning (haha air conditioning in a school)- Oh no sorry that is opening the windows to let the warm air in even more!!!!
UPDATE STRIKE DATES
The National Education Union (NEU) have announced that they are intending to take Strike Action on Wednesday 5th and Friday 7th July 2023.
At the current time (as per the previous Strike Days) the school will be closed to all children on these days.
We will be this week looking at alternative dates for the wide range of events and activities planned for these dates and will publish these as soon as we have had chance to shuffle the summer diary.
CATERLINK SURVEY
Our School Dinner supplier Caterlink have a brief survey they would like you to complete.
This gives you the chance to have your say about a number of aspects of School Dinners.
I would encourage you to click on the link below and take a few minutes to share your views.

TRANSITION PAGE https://www.fairlight.brighton-hove.sch.uk/in-the-classroom/teaching-and-learning-at-fairlight/transition-at-fairlight
We will be updating this page this week with information about how the classes will be organised for September 2023.
This page will also be where we publish the class information for September 2023 on Transition Day.
YEAR 6 TRIP
Our Year 6 pupils spent a lovely few days at Butlins on their end of year residential.
The weather was very kind to them and they had a fantastic time- for some the first time away from family for more than 1 night.
A huge thank you to the school staff who give up their own time to take the children on this journey. Despite what people might think they don't get paid extra to take on this responsibility.
Everyone has come back with a range of stories and tales of what took place.
What happens at Butlins stays at Butlins.
PTA INFORMATION
I have met the PTA Chairs this week to look at plans for the end of the school year as well as for the next school year.
The PTA Chairs and I discussed how the PTA have been less proactive recently however that this has been a positive thing as everyone is very aware of how tough it is for some people financially and we didn't want to put too much additional pressure on parents to spend money they maybe didn't or don't have.
Moving forward anything planned for the rest of the Summer Term will be low key and low cost.
WEEKLY UPDATE
SUMMER TERM WEEK 7
I hope you all had a restful half term break.
It was great to get outside in the sunshine and enjoy the great outdoors.
We have a busy term ahead so please continue to read the weekly update to find out what is going on as well as your Pings and Year Group Website pages.
HOUSE POINTS SO FAR
Last terms House Points tokens have been counted and the winners were:
- 1st place: Blue Indian- 1,600
-
2nd place: Green Atlantic- 1,540
-
3rd place: Yellow Pacific - 1,474
- 4th place: Red Arctic- 1,164
Well done to the Blues- you will get your reward in the coming days.
And now we turn to the overall winner at the end of the school year that will be announced at the end of the school year.
SHAUN THE SHEEP DESIGNS
Monday will be the last day for these.
I have seen some great designs so far so if you haven't finished them yet then have a go over the weekend and put them in the box for Monday.
SAFE PARKING OUTSIDE SCHOOL
You will notice we have some new A Boards outside school reminding you about safe parking.
These are to support the improvements and safety we need around parking at the start and end of the school day.
They are part of the School Streets Project that we are working hard to try and be part of for the next school year.
Just a little word of warning- if you move or knock over a barrier we are required to inform the police/ traffic wardens as this is unsafe behaviour and could result in them taking action.
And please consider that this time it might be the barrier- next time it could be a child.
Moving forward we will be reviewing all aspects of the start and end of the school day- parking, gates, coming in to the school, waiting on ramps etc.
We have a few Health and Safety and Accessibility areas that we need to resolve and this may mean we have to make a few tweeks to a few things.
It would help us get a better idea of what is working and what isn't if everyone could ensure they don't wait on the ramps- particularly those with buggies, bikes or bags.
PROBLEMS IN THE LOCAL PARKS
Please see a joint letter sent from the local Headteachers.
Weekly Updates
Below are the previous updates from this term. Please read through to find out what has been happening this term.
